Bucklin ’06 Old Hill Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon

November 18th, 2009 | Leave a comment

I keep jumping back and forth between wildly innovative French Vin Naturel Pinot Noirs and Syrahs, to cult California Pinots to show stopper California cult cabs. The Bucklin Old Hill Ranch ’06 Cab from Sonoma is a somewhat affordable gem in the later class.

When drinking this Cab, I’m not thinking about soils, or natural yeast or technical winemaking lore. I’m drinking to rediscover that shock and taste that started me on the wine collecting mania back in the day. Rich, concentrated, full of sharp tannins, with a finish that won’t stop. It’s kind a like a Glory Day’s thing. I’m broader in my tastes now but this wine tastes like home to me.

$40 a bottle and worth it.
