Sipping and relishing a rich and delicious Morgon ’07 “Cote du Py” Beaujolais. French Beaujolais are fast becoming my everyday quality and affordable red wine. As well, the wine makers in Beaujolais are amongst the leaders in the Vin Naturel movement, experimenting with natural techniques in the vineyard and the winery and they drink better for that effort.

Also learned that the reason I only drink French Beaujolais is that they don’t grow the Gamay Noir Jus Blanc grape in California. The Gamay grape grown in the States is dramatically different and bland and flat to my taste. This means that Beaujolais is uniquely a French varietal just as Zinfandel is uniquely a California one. Offhand, I can’t think of any other varietal that isn’t grown and bottled as such in a number of different countries. I like wines that are unique to a place and both of these are amongst my favorites.
